ZOMG!!!! Figured it out

The Island is a Stargate!

All this time travel stuff and now egyptian heiroglyphics, it all makes sense!

but, on a serious, non-Kurt Russell note...

Which do you think came first, the Egyptians or the Island?

Or, do you think the people from the Island influenced the culture of Egypt, or do you think that Egyptians somehow landed on the Island to create the heiroglyphics?

  1. Was just doing a little looking into ancient Egyptian gods and such and didn't come up with anything new really.

The statue could be either Anubis or Tawaret (I seem to think out of these 2 Tawaret makes more sense...was fertility god and after its broken, they can't have babies anymore).

Went back and looked at Smokey's vent cover.

It had a pretty definitive Anubis (the jackal head) and a more subtle Apep (the snakes) and possible Ra/Horus (eye shaped carvings in a couple spots).

So, I looked up Anubis and Apep and this is what I found that might have some relation to LOST (from Wiki...cause its the most reliable source lol):

    Anubis
-The critical weighing of the heart scene in Book of the Dead also show Anubis performing the measurement that determined the worthiness of the deceased to enter the realm of the dead (the underworld).
--Subsequently, the god is often shown weighing the heart of the deceased against the feather of truth (Ma'at) in the presence of Thoth (as scribe, writing down the recordings) and Osiris (as judge)
-Since he was more associated with beliefs concerning the weighing of the heart than had Osiris, Anubis retained this aspect, and became considered more the gatekeeper and ruler of the underworld, the "Guardian of the veil" (of "death"). Consequently, he was said to protect souls as they journeyed there, and thus be the patron of lost souls (and consequently orphans).

    Apep
-Was an evil demon, the deification of darkness and chaos, and thus opponent of light and Ma'at (order/truth).

Well....all this considered, I'm still not getting a Smokey reference. I looked for something that might explain it, but came up empty. I also found nothing really linking any sort of island to ancient Egyptian religion. It all seems pretty scattered and random. Gut feeling: they threw this out here to confuse/mislead us. Yeah there have been hieroglyphics in other places (Swan to be precise) but, to our knowledge, DHARMA made that station. And nothing else really seems to explain the islands other mysterious properties (electromagnetism, bringing people 'back to life', healing)

  2. Good call as to why they can't have babies Matt. I never thought about that. Let's be honest it's a Ra/Richard Alpert eye.
